Chatty Friendly

Concept Overview

Chatty Friendly is a design-led initiative focused on improving mental wellbeing by creating more accessible opportunities for everyday social interaction. The project explores how carefully considered spatial and service design can reduce social barriers and encourage meaningful, low-pressure conversations within public environments. By introducing subtle interventions that support connection while respecting individual comfort levels, Chatty Friendly aims to create experiences that benefit individuals, strengthen community engagement, and provide value for businesses through more inclusive and welcoming spaces.

The Chatty Friendly recognition system highlights businesses that actively support social connection and inclusive community experiences. Through a visible accreditation model, participating spaces are recognised for adopting design and service principles that encourage comfortable, optional interaction between visitors. The system helps users easily identify welcoming environments while giving businesses a clear way to demonstrate their commitment to wellbeing, community engagement, and positive social impact.
