Anovo

A connected wellbeing system designed to support people seeking asylum within initial accommodation.

ANOVO combines a sensory bedside device with a connected support platform, creating a calm and private way for residents to express wellbeing while helping support workers provide more timely and responsive care.

Key Challenges

Initial Accommodation provides essential shelter, but often lacks the conditions needed to support wellbeing and responsive care.

ANOVO responds to these challenges through a connected wellbeing system designed around calm interaction, emotional visibility, and proactive support.

Sensory Device

Sensory Wellbeing Interaction

The ANOVO bedside device creates a calm and low-pressure way for residents to express emotional wellbeing. Through the dial interaction, residents can communicate how they feel using a series of coloured wellbeing modes. In response, the device adapts through lighting and sound to support comfort, relaxation, and emotional wellbeing within the space.

Support Platform

Connected Wellbeing System

Alongside the physical device, the connected support platform translates emotional input from resident devices into clear wellbeing insight. This allows support workers to identify emotional distress earlier, prioritise residents needing support, and deliver more timely and responsive care within accommodation environments.

5 Emotional Modes

Five emotional modes use light and sound to support different wellbeing needs.

Supports loneliness through blue light and ambient sound.
Reduces overstimulation using soft lighting and brown noise.
Creates a comfortable atmosphere for everyday use.
Encourages relaxation with warm lighting and peaceful sound.
Promotes motivation with uplifting sound and light.

Design Development

The design was developed through sketching, prototyping, CAD modelling, and interaction testing, exploring how sensory interaction could support emotional wellbeing within accommodation environments

Design for Manufacture

ANOVO was developed with long-term use and assembly, in mind. The product uses a simplified design for future injection moulding, incorporating a 3-part housing structure with draft angles to support more efficient manufacturing and assembly.

External fasteners allow the device to be more easily accessed for repair over time, helping extend product lifespan.

Packaging

The packaging uses recyclable materials and a moulded fibre insert to protect the product while reflecting the calm and minimal visual language of ANOVO.

Soft neutral tones and a simplified layout help maintain consistency across the overall product experience.

Mobile Wellbeing Support

Designed around quick and glanceable interaction.

The ANOVO mobile application provides support workers with accessible emotional insight, wellbeing updates, and support prompts throughout the day.

The platform supports more responsive and emotionally informed wellbeing care within accommodation environments.

CMF & Language

ANOVO was designed to feel calm, approachable, and non-clinical within shared accommodation spaces. The product uses warm neutral tones, soft lighting, and a minimal visual language to create a more comforting presence within living spaces.

The form combines clean geometric surfaces with circular details to reduce visual harshness and create a more emotionally supportive interaction. By simplifying both the form and interaction, the design aims to reduce cognitive overload while encouraging low-pressure interaction.

Future Vision

As living environments continue to change, there is a growing need for more supportive and emotionally aware forms of care.

ANOVO explores how connected wellbeing interaction could help create calmer and more responsive accommodation environments.


Work Experience

PriestmanGoode – Industrial Design Intern 2024-25

Worked across a range of transport projects, supporting concept development, CAD modelling, CMF exploration, rendering, and interface design. The placement provided experience working within multidisciplinary teams while contributing to delivered design outcomes.
