The Casualty Recovery-Aid reduces the friction of lifting someone into a rigid inflatable boat, making the rescue process efficient and injury free. It has been designed primarily for the Atlantic 85 Lifeboat to assist the RNLI with inshore rescues.

Scenario Of Use

CR-AID integrates seamlessly into the standard rescue procedure, (requiring minimal additional training) allowing crew to do their job without the concern of failure.

Features

One way rollers (using sprag clutch bearings) prevent the casualty from slipping back into the water
The grab rail allows casualties to support themselves and doubles as a ladder when front facing
Brackets have an EPDM rubber base, keeping the rig stable on contact with the side of the boat

The ready position: clipped on handles towards the aft of the boat

CR-AID was designed primarily for the RNLI’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat. It offers various benefits to lifeboat crew members during rescues:

  • Deployable by one person
  • Reduces Lifting Effort by a third
  • Offers extra casualty support
  • Stows in a secure, compact form
  • Reduces risk of lower back injury

Thorough prototyping was used to drive the development of this project forward.
