CO FREE – Carbon Dioxide Delivery System

CO FREE is a carbon dioxide delivery device that provides symptom relief to users who suffer from asthma symptoms. It leverages the hidden benefits of CO2 such as its bronchodilator affect on the airway, improved oxygen delivery through the Bohr effect and its influence on respiratory drive. This product provides drug free relief to patients trying to reduce their dependence on steroids and other medication. 

Delivery

The device has taken preexisting carbon dioxide delivery devices and made it a hand held portable device. This opens the doors to those who need the aid it can offer, on the go. The key advantage of this product is that it delivers the carbon dioxide from a food grade CO2 16g canister. By using a combination of; a piercing unit, pressure regulator, needle valve, solenoid valve and flow rate sensor, the device can take the high pressured gas coming from the canister and control and measure the dosage delivered to the user. By measuring the actual output volume of the device, a specific volumetric dosage can be set and tracked by the user.

Final Prototype

The final prototype for this product design proposal is made up of three components. The housing device was prototyped as an aesthetic model with interactive interaction points that gave feedback on interaction. This allowed for feedback from participants, especially participants suffering with symptoms the product is aimed at targeting. The mask was a fully functioning prototype with adapted material selection to aid rapid prototyping. Finally, a UI prototype simulated the display system that would be at the forefront of the mass manufactured product.
