I'm Murray, a Product Design student with strong skills in prototyping, DFM, and mechatronics. I enjoy developing innovative, user focused products that combine engineering and aesthetics, using practical problem solving and iteration to create functional designs that improve everyday life.
Final Year Major Project – CRYO
Scenario of Use
The Process
Prototyping: The project involved continuous prototyping throughout the development process, using a variety of prototyping techniques to achieve a fully functional final prototype.
Testing: Testing was carried out throughout the project on both mechanical and electronic prototypes, with final validation conducted through participant user testing and climate chamber testing.
Design for Manufacture: Applying DFM principles such as material and process selection, efficient assembly, draft angles, and constant wall thicknesses to create a production ready design.
Engineering Drawings: Industry level engineering drawings were produced to clearly communicate the complex geometry and features of the design, applying skills developed during my year in industry.
App Design: The app was designed with a strong focus on user interaction and refined through an iterative development process driven by user feedback.
Other Projects
Mechatronics Project: I worked on a group project developing a firefighting RC robot designed to navigate a course and put out candles, strengthening my teamwork, mechatronics, and problem-solving skills.
Surface Modelling Project: I completed a surface modelling project accurately recreating a BOSCH jigsaw, further developing my CAD skills with a strong focus on achieving G2 continuity across surfaces.
Placement Year: During my year at DIAM UK I worked on over 60 point-of-sale projects, where I developed my knowledge of additive manufacturing, metalwork, plastic fabrication, and vacuum forming, while improving my CAD skills and understanding of the design industry.
