FLUX – Automated Fuelling for Triathletes

A bike-mounted fuelling system that automatically delivers hydration and nutrition during the cycling stage of a triathlon, using live data from the athlete’s wearable devices.

The Problem

Fuelling is one of the biggest challenges in endurance sport, particularly during the bike leg of a triathlon where athletes are trying to maintain speed, stay aerodynamic and manage fatigue at the same time. Poorly timed or inconsistent intake of fluids can lead to dehydration, stomach discomfort, cramping, energy crashes and reduced performance.

Many athletes currently rely on a mixture of bottles, gels, bars and reminders, which can be awkward to manage while riding and adds cognitive load during an already demanding event.

The Solution

FLUX is a smart aero fuelling system designed to mount between a triathlete’s handlebars. It stores water and liquid carbohydrate fuel in separate reservoirs, then uses an internal pump system to deliver measured fuel doses into the rider’s drinking flow during the ride.

The product is designed to work with a companion app and wearable data, allowing the rider to set fuelling targets, monitor system status and choose between different fuelling modes depending on their event strategy. Its compact form integrates into the aero bar area, reducing the need for loose gels, extra bottles and cluttered nutrition storage.

The Benefit

By supporting more consistent fuelling without constant manual tracking, FLUX helps athletes stay focused on riding, pacing and performance. The system reduces the mental effort of remembering when and how much to fuel, while keeping hydration and nutrition accessible from the aero position.

This allows triathletes to maintain a cleaner bike setup, reduce distraction and approach long-distance racing with greater confidence, control and consistency.

Designed For Manufacture

FLUX is built around a compact internal system that combines a rechargeable battery, control electronics, pump module, tubing route and removable reservoirs. The device uses stored fuelling plans and connected data to control the pump, dosing carbohydrate concentrate into the rider’s water supply through the drinking system.

The product has also been developed with Design for Manufacture in mind, using clear part separation, standard components, accessible internal packaging and serviceable assemblies.

UX Copanion App and Alternative Colourways

The companion app allows the rider to set up FLUX before training or racing, choosing their fuelling target, checking reservoir levels and selecting the most appropriate operating mode. The device can run in fully automatic, hybrid or set-programme mode, allowing different levels of control depending on the athlete’s preference and race strategy. The app also supports live system feedback, helping the user understand battery status, fuelling progress and when manual interaction may be needed.

FLUX is offered in a range of colourways to suit different bike setups and athlete preferences while keeping the same performance-focused design language.

Bloom Point

Bloom Point is a self-sufficient open-water quality monitoring buoy designed to help detect algal blooms, E. coli risk and wider water-quality issues in lakes and watersports environments. The product is deployed as a floating smart buoy, either by replacing existing buoys or by attaching to its own anchor line, then monitors the water from fixed points across a lake. Multiple units can be used as a network, with the project suggesting one buoy per 0.25km² for stronger area coverage, or a rotational method for smaller sites with lower budgets. The system is supported by an app and administrator access, giving site managers clearer, more accessible water-quality data without relying only on manual testing.

Oakley – Alpine Vision-X

Oakley Alpine Vision-X is an AI-driven alpine safety aid designed as a modular upgrade for ski goggles. The clip-on unit connects to a HUD lens and uses live environmental, GPS and performance data to give skiers real-time risk awareness directly in their field of view. It can highlight avalanche-prone terrain, improve visibility in flat light or whiteout conditions, suggest safer routes and display key information such as speed, distance and altitude without requiring the skier to stop or check a phone. The design is built around Oakley’s technical brand language, with glove-friendly controls, weather-sealed hardware and a compact module that clips onto existing goggle straps.
