I made a series of book covers for an unwritten story based on the Ukrainian legend of Blud, a spirit of confusion. A menacing, shapeshifting forest creature who hunts down travellers, lures them into the forest’s darkest corners, and makes them wander in circles forever. Never finding their way out, never feeling a glimpse of hope for a brighter future.
I wanted to use an existing mythological concept as a metaphor for the human condition, psychological struggles, and the nature of self-sabotage. Blud is a representation of inner struggles and self-deprecation, while the forest is life, full of opportunities that we stop ourselves from discovering.
