

Loam is a food waste solution designed to provide off-campus food scraps; a new purpose.




Through a closed-loop system, food scraps are transformed into a shared community resource. New connections are fostered between students and community members with added benefits of long‑term behaviour change.
Students rent a countertop unit from the university; add food scraps and an overnight drying cycle turns them into a clean, nutrient-rich soil-amendment powder, caught in a removable base.
Users take the base to a partner allotment, where the powder feeds the soil and grows real produce.

Students receive information on donation sites and upcoming donation events where they can get involved.

Rethinking low-tech solutions

Wound is a wind up electric toothbrush that follows a low-tech ethos.
The mechanism is comprised using standard horology and small-motor components, which allows for repairability and no specialist suppliers.

Just 10 winds of the base loads a mainspring that drives the brush head for a full two-minute cycle.
