Sweet & Sour

The local Chinese, a mainstay from urban high streets to rural villages up and down the country. “Getting a Chinese”, a Friday night ritual. Dishes like salt and pepper chips, sweet and sour chicken, spice bags. How did Chinese takeaways become a beloved part of the UK’s food culture?

Grown from my Dad’s sweet and sour memories of his parents’ Chinese takeaway, Sweet & Sour is my ongoing passion project. I explore stories, design and history of Chinese Takeaways in the UK, alongside conversations with others growing up in these family businesses.
