Knitting

After developing a repeat pattern from my drawings, I experimented with the effects of different yarn weights, textures and colour schemes.

I explored more methods of adding detail to knit to allow me to explore non-repetitive imagery. This included embroidered duplicate stitch, which imitates knitted stiches; and multi strand knitting, to create marled colours to imitate the soft natural colour variation of sky or rippled water.

Metalwork

I wanted to explore pairing contrasting materials, partially inspired by the juxtaposition between the urban and the natural on the Heath. As this work developed, I became more interested in how the surface’s reflective qualities emphasise the aspects of space and light that makes spaces like the Heath so valuable for wellbeing in urban areas.

All you can see are trees and sky. There is so much space here. So much peace.
