My photography explores conventional associations with masculinity and femininity by using these stereotypes in tandem with one another. For example, I wear a suit and very masculine glasses while gently interacting with a cherry blossom tree, or wear a denim jacket and sit in a large armchair whilst having my cleavage visible and a bare lower body. These photos also consider power and anger through direct engagement with the viewer, and clear emotional charge that will resonate differently with different demographics of audience.
My Final Major Project titled “Being” aimed to represent the communities I am part of (queer, alternative) in a way that questions who or what gets to decide that we are ‘different’ and simultaneously celebrates the disturbing of conventional expectations.

My poetry similarly explores themes of experiencing being genderfluid, existing as a powerful feminine person, introspection, autonomy and resistance to convention.

I have processed my photos in analogue ways as photograms and deliberately disturbed the process with fingerprints to represent my disturbing of ‘normal’ processes associated with being feminine. Areas of my body have been enlarged to play with emphasis on typically feminine and therefore sexualised parts of the form.
