The Problem:
Annually, tens of millions of people are affected by power outages due to natural disasters and extreme weather. Lack of power leaves devices uncharged, preventing people from locating loved ones or contact emergency services. Current solutions, such as fossil fuel generators, are unsustainable, expensive, and potentially inaccessible in the aftermath.
The Solution:
ResQ-charge harnesses three methods of generating power, eliminating reliance on any single source. The product can be purchased as a precaution, pre-charged and stored for when needed. The internal battery provides on-demand charge, by storing the power generated by the turbine and solar panels. If there is no wind or solar energy available, the geared hand crank can be attached and spun to generate power. An integrated light allows for safe operation at any time of day, while a removable, internally charged power bank gives users the freedom to take power on the go without being tethered to the product.

The project has been designed for injection moulding with UV-stabilised polycarbonate, chosen for its impact resistance and other suitable properties.
Core DFM principles have been considered such as constant wall thicknesses, ribs and draft angles for feasible and efficient injection moulding.

Fire robot: A group project where we were tasked to to design and build a remote controlled robot that would overcome a series of obstacles and extinguish fires of varying difficulties.

During my placement year, I gained end-to-end product development experience, working on multiple projects including taking a new kitchen tap design from its initial concept through to renders, engineering drawings and manufacturing discussions. This provided insight into the commercial and technical considerations required in a real business environment. I also advanced my visual communication skills, completing official KeyShot training to produce high quality renders and 360-degree animations. Beyond technical design, I engaged actively with the wider business, attending and supporting at events such as Grand Designs Live and InstallerSHOW, and I was shortlisted for the company wide ‘Empower’ award for my work and attitude.
