“The perceived world is the always presupposed foundation of all rationality, all value, and all existence.”
-Maurice Merleau-Ponty
Grounded in Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenological enquiry, my work seeks to investigate individual perception through sensual immersion. The way in which humans perceive the world is completely unique and only presents to the perceiver through means of introspection. My work seeks to promote a unique reaction through use of colour and layering using ambiguous forms.
I use a combination of acrylic paint and spray paint to layer on canvas. The spray marks are made through paper stencils, which double up as a form of painting in themselves, helping to curate an immersive experience.
