Loom is a new approach to an old industry. Sewing machines have long prioritised function over experience, often resulting in products that feel visually outdated, overly mechanical and disconnected from contemporary creative culture. Loom rethinks this through a refined, lightweight design focused on mobility, precision and modern sewing workflows.

01 PROCESS
Early development explored silhouette, detailing and CMF direction through sketch iteration. The process focused on creating a sewing machine that felt more aligned with modern tools and consumer products.

The final response was a lightweight aluminium sewing machine designed around portability and streamlined interaction. Viewed from multiple angles, the product highlights a balance between compact packaging, tactile controls and integrated features intended to support travel and flexible use.

03 FEATURES
Integrated features were designed to reduce complexity and improve usability within a compact format. Wireless control, removable power and simplified access points help support a more flexible and intuitive sewing experience.

04 ANATOMY
The internal layout of Loom was designed to organise key components within a reduced footprint while maintaining accessibility and ease of use. Exploded and transparent views reveal the relationship between the structural frame, sewing mechanisms and integrated features contained within the compact form.

05 SCALE
At 300mm wide, Loom significantly reduces the overall size of traditional sewing machines while remaining suited to everyday tasks, supplying four stitch options and adjustable stitch lengths. The smaller format allows the product to fit more naturally within modern workflows and smaller living spaces.

LIVE PROJECTS
AN10 was developed for a university brief set by DCA and awarded 1st place. Designed using the visual language of Teenage Engineering, the project explores how AI-assisted hardware could support musicians through recording, analysis and idea development within a more fluid creative workflow.
