Decadence and Decay is a textile and surface design collection that transforms overlooked traces of interior spaces into decorative pattern. Mould, dust, staining, cracks, rust, and worn surfaces are used as visual “data”, turning signs of deterioration into rich, atmospheric designs.
Working through digital print, flock, foil, velvet textures, and mirrored repeats, the project explores the tension between luxury and decay. The collection includes wallpapers, lampshades and textile samples that reimagine ageing surfaces as something decorative, valuable and emotionally connected to place.
Rather than following fast-changing trends, Decadence and Decay proposes a slower approach to pattern design, where interiors are shaped by memory, material history and the traces left behind over time.
This section presents the final wallpaper outcomes developed from mould-informed imagery and mirrored repeat structures. The designs translate organic surface growth into bold decorative patterns, using scale, symmetry and colour to transform references of decay into striking interior surfaces.
The final wallpapers explore different moods within the collection, from vivid pink and acid yellow to darker berry and teal tones. Displaying the designs as full wallpaper lengths shows how the repeat works at interior scale, allowing the patterns to feel immersive, atmospheric and suitable for maximalist spaces.
This section presents the final lampshade outcomes developed from the wider Decadence and Decay collection. The designs translate mould-informed patterns and distressed surface textures into functional interior pieces, showing how the project can move beyond flat wallpaper and into decorative lighting.
The lampshades use layered print, velvet textures, metallic surfaces and warm light to heighten the contrast between luxury and deterioration. When illuminated, the materials reveal different levels of texture, depth and atmosphere, reinforcing the project’s focus on interiors that feel rich, aged and emotionally connected to place.
This section shows the final collection displayed as an interior setting, bringing together wallpaper, lampshades, upholstered pieces and swatchbook samples. Presenting the outcomes together shows how the prints work across different surfaces, scales and functions, from flat wallpaper to lighting and soft furnishing.
The installation allows the collection to be understood as a complete interior proposal rather than separate samples. The wallpapers create an immersive backdrop, while the lampshades and upholstered pieces demonstrate how the same visual language can move through pattern, texture, light and object.
