A textile designer exploring memory, place and material storytelling through tactile surfaces. My work combines industrial South Yorkshire textures with Turkish influences, using Jesmonite. Embedded fragments and modular tile forms preserve personal heritage through contemporary design.

INHERITED LANDSCAPE

Material Memory

This project explores how memory can be held through material, surface and form. By combining Jesmonite with coal, rust, sand, shells and pigment, the work translates personal connections to South Yorkshire and coastal areas of Turkey into a tactile collection of tile designs.

“To describe the properties of materials is to tell the stories of what happens to them as they flow, mix and mutate.”-Tim Ingold, Materials against Materiality

Through modular tiles, embedded fragments and material contrast, ‘Inherited Landscapes’ preserves personal heritage as a tactile archive by connecting industrial South Yorkshire with coastal Turkey through personal encounters, memory, surface and form.
