For my project 'Sovenance' I focused on memories, reminiscence and evoking emotional atmospheres in my audience. I developed this through photography, both analogue and digital, cyanotypes and digital manipulation, using personal memories and themes to explore my passions.
Exhibition Installation
I wanted to create an immersive atmosphere for my installation, which I developed by layering my work and allowing certain elements to move freely, reflecting how memories are not linear, and change, fragment and distort through periods of time.
I used personal, physical artifacts to explore how fragile and emotive memories can be.
I also incorporated my real film negatives to capture remnants of moments frozen in time.
Photography
I created indirect narratives open to interpretation through my photography, creating subtle and minute changes between images, taken just seconds apart. This also ensured I captured a memory-like atmosphere, through hazy, uncertain and dynamic compositions, capturing movement through film stills.
I selected these three images, specifically capturing light trails, movement, motion blur, and light leaks, shot on 35mm black and white film, printed using enlargers in a homemade darkroom allowing dust, texture and uneven development to feel a stronger personal connection to my imagery.
