My practice acknowledges found fabrics as material archives, reimagining them as abstract figures that evoke human movement, touch, and relational experience. Working with found materials limits my palette and texture, breeding innovative and unconventional design. Restricting myself to discarded fabrics allows me to rework past comforts into new purposes, sewing fresh life and intention into each piece. Every thread carries traces of memory, inviting both myself and the viewer to reflect on the thoughts, feelings, and histories embedded within the material. Each figure is built through close physical interaction – fabric limbs draped across my lap, my body contorting around each torso as my hand nurtures this new life.
I believe physical intimacy between living beings is beautiful and important to embrace. Intimacy does not have to be overtly passionate or frightening; it can exist in a simple brush of the hand or a lingering acknowledgement of another presence. My bodies circulate in slow rotation, interacting with the surrounding air and the figures they encounter. This gentle conveyer of bodily communication acts as a soft reminder not to deter from engagement, but to approach it as a quiet act of recognition.
