Outdoor first aiders lack specialised equipment for suspected spinal trauma. Traditionally, responders must rely on exhausting manual stabilisation or improvised padding with clothing.
VertaBrace is a non-rigid spinal support first aid tool engineered for the backcountry. Bridging the critical time gap between the initial incident and the arrival of mountain rescue.
By replacing guesswork with structural support, VertaBrace prevents secondary injury and provides vital peace of mind.

A group project, focused on preventing deer-vehicle collisions, working with NatureScot Deer Policy Division. This was a fantastic project working alongside Elise Parker (BA Design), George Fisher and Matt Noon (BA Industrial Design), developing a roadside warning post with built-in animal detection using infrared sensors, which in turn warns drivers using an LED beacon, to the presence of wildlife on the verge.
We have been incredibly well supported by the University in developing this project, and are actively in the Runway to LU Inc (Loughborough University Incubator) programme to further develop it and turn it into a start-up. We have had the opportunity to pitch to and work with some amazing names in the industry, and have been awarded funding from 2 different competitions to continue to develop the product.
