Hello! My name is Poppy and I am a British artist, currently focusing on a range of sculptural media, from ceramics to woodwork and basketry. As an artist I take my inspirations from the past, often ancient styles and civilisations.

What is my project about?

My project explores themes of women’s labour alongside ancient crafts, placing these crafts in an antique and contemporary environment. The physical work itself has been composed from natural materials in traditional methods, resulting in a range of work that is in theory, historically accurate.

Throughout my project, I have been depicting abstract female forms in a range of ways, with inspiration being taken from archaeological artefacts and a large span of representations of the female form. In particular, the Palaeolithic ‘Venus Figures’ of Europe. Along with contemporary artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle, Barbara Hepworth, and Ruth Asawa. Resulting in an abstract, minimalistic style of work.
